Oil Changes
The foundation of your truck’s service is getting regular oil changes. If you tow heavy loads or operate in extreme temperatures, oil changes are recommended every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you tow moderate loads—or none at all—or operate the vehicle on mostly level roads, you can have the oil changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
At the same time that you get an oil change, you should also have the tires rotated and inspected. Other tasks at this time include inspecting the transmission fluid levels, brake pads, engine cooling system, and exhaust system.
- Every 20,000 Miles: At 20,000 miles and every 20,000 miles after, you should replace the cabin air filter.
- Every 30,000 Miles: When you reach 30,000 miles and every 30,000 miles after that, replace the engine air filter and engine-mounted and frame-mounted fuel filters.
- Every 100,000 Miles: At 100,000 miles, change the engine coolant, have the spark plugs replaced, and inspect the accessory drive belt or belts. You should have the spark plugs replaced and accessory drive belt inspected every 100,000 miles after that.
- Every 150,000 Miles: At 150,000 miles, change the automatic transmission fluid and filter, the front and rear axle fluid, and the transfer case fluid. The accessory drive belt should be replaced at this time. Do this every 150,000 miles after that.
