Ford F-150 Hybrid Powertrain Preview

Before we go into anything else we expect to see from the 2021 Ford F-150, we need to take a moment to talk about the hybrid powertrain. This configuration of the mighty 2021 F-150 is expected to come equipped with a 3.5L PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6 engine that really churns out plenty of power.

It’s expected to pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission with an embedded electric motor. This motor applies regenerative braking to capture kinetic braking energy and use it to charge the truck’s battery. It’ll also run on either 2-wheel drive (2WD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD).

Of course, we can’t forget about efficiency. The Ford F-150 Hybrid has a targeted EPA-estimated range of approximately 700 miles on a full tank of gas.2

Keep in mind that your actual range will vary, especially if you’re hitting that targeted maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. Yes, it has a targeted towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. That’s equivalent to the weight of roughly 43 Linemen in football terms!

The hybrid powertrain should be available on all trim levels of the 2021 Ford F-150.

2021 Ford F-150 Driver-Assistive Technology

Just like you, the 2021 Ford F-150 is all about working smarter not harder. So, it’ll be equipped with several driver-assistive technology features designed to improve overall convenience, safety, and driver awareness.

The 2021 model is expected to add in 10 new features, in addition to the returning with some old favorites, like:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection
  • Rearview camera with Dynamic Hitch Assist
  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps

One new feature that we can’t wait to try out is called Active Drive Assist. This futuristic feature allows for hands-free driving on more than 100,000 miles of divided highways in all 50 states. It works by tracking driver head position and eye gaze. As long as you’re watching the road, you can take your hands off the wheel and relax a little more during a long drive.

We also expect to see the new Intersection Assist with the 2021 Ford F-150. This feature uses sensors to help prevent you from making a left-hand turn at a busy intersection when it’s unsafe to do so.
